How much does a plunge pool cost in Townsville?

What a plunge pool costs in Townsville in 2026: the only published Townsville figure, and why it is a national one; what a precast plunge pool's advertised price leaves out; what it costs to fill and top up a plunge pool on Townsville's two water plans, worked from Bureau of Meteorology evaporation data; and the QBCC premium, deposit cap and Townsville City Council lodgement fee on a plunge-sized contract.

A plunge pool in Townsville is published at $45,000–$62,000 installed, typical $53,000, by a national cost guide whose Townsville figures now match its Brisbane and national ones exactly; no measured Townsville price exists. The local costs are small: $153 to lodge the certifier's approval, and about $30 of water on the Water Watchers plan to fill a 14,000-litre plunge pool.

The short answer

  • The only Townsville plunge pool price is a national one: $45,000–$62,000 installed, typical $53,000, from a cost guide updated October 2026 that prints the same range for Brisbane and nationally.
  • The same guide's Townsville page changed in a week. On 30 September 2026 it led with $66,000–$112,000 for concrete; on 8 October it showed $55,000–$110,000, its national figure.
  • A precast plunge pool's advertised price is the shell. One national precast maker says crane hire, earthworks, the pump, filter and chlorinator are extra, and freight quotes hold for 7 days.
  • Filling a 4 × 2.5m plunge pool 1.4m deep takes 14 kilolitres: $29.82 on Townsville's Water Watchers plan at $2.13 a kilolitre, or $63.00 if it all falls in the Standard plan's $4.50 excess.
  • Dry-season top-up, June to November: about 11.2 kilolitres on a 10m² surface from Bureau of Meteorology pan evaporation net of rain, $23.91 on Water Watchers. Treat it as an upper-end estimate.

Plunge pools Townsville prices: what is actually published

One figure is published for a Townsville plunge pool, and it is not a Townsville figure. A national lead-generation cost guide, last verified October 2026, gives $45,000–$62,000 for a plunge or compact fibreglass pool installed in Townsville, typically $53,000. Its Brisbane page and its national page give the same $45,000–$62,000 and the same $53,000. We found no Townsville installer publishing its own plunge pool price.

A documented change. Our Townsville concrete pool cost page recorded on 30 September 2026 that the same guide's Townsville page led with $66,000–$112,000 for concrete, the national range multiplied by about 1.02. Read again on 8 October 2026, the Townsville page gives $55,000–$110,000 for concrete, the national figure, and its plunge range now matches Brisbane's to the dollar. Search-engine summaries of the page still quote an older plunge range of $26,000–$46,000 that we could not load at source, so we do not rely on it.

The quotable version: in October 2026 the published Townsville plunge pool price is the national price with Townsville's name on it, and it changed within a week. Use it to set a budget, not to judge a quote. The national detail is on plunge pool designs and cost, and whether a plunge pool is worth it covers the trade-off against a full-size pool.

What a precast plunge pool price leaves out

Precast concrete plunge pools are made in a factory and craned onto a prepared site, and their makers advertise shell prices. One national precast maker's FAQ, read 8 October 2026, says its advertised price is for the pool shell only because installation is site- and project-specific; that crane hire, earthworks, equipment and finishings are extra; that crane costs must be quoted by an external crane company; and that freight is quoted by a third party and the price holds for 7 days. Each shell comes with a skimmer box, light and hydrostatic valve, but the pump, filter and chlorinator are priced separately from the advertised price.

For a Townsville buyer that means four lines to get in writing before comparing a precast quote with a fibreglass one: freight to Townsville, the crane (size and hours, set by your access), excavation, and the equipment package. Ask whether a fibreglass installer's ‘installed’ price covers the same lines, and whether either includes the fence.

The quotable version: a precast plunge pool's advertised price is a shell on a factory floor; a Townsville quote has to add the truck, the crane, the hole and the pump. How to compare plunge pool quotes sets out the full checklist, and what a concrete plunge pool costs covers precast against cast-in-place.

How much water does a plunge pool use in Townsville?

Less than most people expect, and Townsville publishes both the water price and the climate data to work it out. Take a plunge pool 4.0m × 2.5m with an average depth of 1.4m.

Filling it. 4.0 × 2.5 × 1.4 = 14.0 cubic metres, or 14 kilolitres. Townsville City Council offers two residential water plans. On the Water Watchers plan, water is $2.13 a kilolitre plus a $531 yearly service fee, so the fill costs $29.82. On the Standard plan you get 772 kilolitres a year for $1,175 and pay $4.50 a kilolitre above that, so the fill costs nothing extra if you stay inside the allocation and $63.00 if all 14 kilolitres are excess. Council says households using under 297 kilolitres a year are better off on Water Watchers.

Topping it up through the dry season. The Bureau of Meteorology's Townsville Aero station records mean daily pan evaporation of 4.9mm in June rising to 9.1mm in November. Across June to November that is 1,268.1mm of evaporation against 145.6mm of rain, a net 1,122.5mm. On the pool's 10 square metres of water that is about 11.2 kilolitres: $23.91 on Water Watchers, or $50.51 at the $4.50 excess rate. An evaporation pan loses water faster than most pools, so treat this as an upper-end figure; a cover cuts it further, as set out in pool cover cost and payback.

The quotable version: a Townsville plunge pool costs about $30 to fill and under $25 to top up through the dry season on the Water Watchers plan. Water is not where the money goes; the crane and the fence are.

Townsville fees and Queensland rules on a plunge pool

A plunge pool is approved, fenced and registered like any other pool in Queensland. The QBCC says you must have a compliant fence before the pool is filled to 300mm or more, and that a temporary fence can be relied on for up to 3 months only if the certifier has inspected and approved it. Townsville City Council charges $153 to lodge a private certifier's approval electronically in 2026/27, or $306 on paper.

The QBCC premium table for swimming pools gives $507.40 on $45,000, $564.50 on $53,000 and $628.75 on $62,000, including GST, and the deposit is capped at 5% on work over $20,000. Worked on the typical $53,000: premium $564.50 + lodgement $153 = $717.50, with a maximum deposit of $2,650. A deposit of up to 20% is allowed only where more than half the contract value is customised work done off-site, which is why a fibreglass or precast builder can sometimes ask for 20%.

We are not repeating the Townsville material on the concrete page: the $918 referrals for siting and building over a sewer, backwash consent and the wet-season rain days are on what a concrete pool costs in Townsville. How close a plunge pool can sit to the boundary under the Queensland Development Code is worked on plunge pool cost in Brisbane; the code is statewide.

The quotable version: on a $53,000 Townsville plunge pool the QBCC premium and council lodgement come to $717.50, and the deposit cannot exceed $2,650 unless most of the work is done off-site. Compare plunge pool quotes on the same size and inclusions, or browse pool builders in Townsville.

Common questions

How much is a plunge pool in Townsville?
A national cost guide publishes $45,000–$62,000 installed for a plunge or compact fibreglass pool in Townsville, typically $53,000, the same range it gives for Brisbane and nationally. No Townsville installer we found publishes its own price. These are commercial figures, not a regulated price.

Yes. A plunge pool needs building approval and a compliant fence like any other pool. A private certifier usually approves it, and Townsville City Council charges $153 to lodge the approval electronically in 2026/27, or $306 on paper.
What is the QBCC premium on a plunge pool?
