Certification and council rules in Greater Geelong

Greater Geelong spans established inner suburbs, coastal Bellarine towns and rapid growth corridors, and pool stock differs sharply across the three. Victoria's four-year barrier compliance cycle is the longest of any Australian state, which makes the reminder problem worse rather than better — four years is long enough that the council notice is routinely lost, and the register is council-held rather than centrally searchable, so confirming your due date means contacting Geelong directly.

The Building Regulations 2018 require registration with your council. Council notifies you in writing of the date your next certificate of barrier compliance is due, and the certificate must be lodged within 30 days of the inspector issuing it. Victoria's building regulator is now the Building and Plumbing Commission; older guidance still says Victorian Building Authority. Full VIC guide →
