How much does pool fencing cost in Brisbane?

What pool fencing costs in Brisbane in 2026, from a Brisbane glass fencer's prices and two cost guides that disagree, and what Queensland requires when you replace a pool fence: which repairs need no approval, why a whole new fence starts with a pool safety inspector, the 3-month re-inspection clock, the $3,300 licence line and Brisbane City Council's fees.

Pool fencing in Brisbane is published at $350–$550 a metre installed for frameless glass and $280–$380 for semi-frameless by one Brisbane fencer, and $100–$350 for aluminium in a cost guide. Replacing a house pool's whole fence starts with a licensed pool safety inspector; Brisbane City Council lists $632.55 for its pool safety inspection.

The short answer

  • Brisbane glass fencing prices are vendor figures: one Brisbane fencer publishes $350–$550 a metre for frameless and $280–$380 for semi-frameless glass. A Brisbane fencing firm gives $200–$600+ for glass and $150–$300 for aluminium.
  • 20 metres of frameless glass is $7,000–$11,000 on the fencer's own per-metre rate. Its own 20-metre example says $8,000–$13,000, so about $1,000–$2,000 is not itemised.
  • The 2.4-metre line: Queensland lets you repair up to 2.4m of a pool fence or 2 posts without building approval. Replacing the whole barrier of a house pool starts with a pool safety inspector and a Form 26, then a re-inspection within 3 months.
  • Inspection costs are not regulated. The QBCC says there is no set charge for a pool safety inspector; Brisbane City Council's 2026–27 price for its pool safety certificate inspection is $632.55.
  • Fence work worth $3,300 or more needs a QBCC-licensed contractor, and an owner doing work over $11,000 needs an owner-builder permit.

How much does glass pool fencing cost in Brisbane?

Every Brisbane price we found is published by someone who sells fencing or sells leads to fencers. Read on 10 October 2026:

  • A Brisbane glass pool fencer, in a page updated 20 May 2026, gives $350–$550 a lineal metre installed for frameless glass and $280–$380 for semi-frameless. Its 20-metre example says $8,000–$13,000 for frameless and $5,600–$7,600 for semi-frameless.
  • A Brisbane landscaping and fencing firm gives $200–$600+ a metre for glass pool fencing and $150–$300 for aluminium.
  • A national lead-generation cost guide gives $300–$800 a metre for glass pool fencing in Brisbane (typical $500) and $100–$350 for aluminium (typical $200). Its Perth glass band, $315–$840 with $525 typical, is the Brisbane band plus exactly 5%, so it is a formula, not Brisbane evidence.

Applied to a 20-metre fence, the fencer's own frameless rate gives 20 × $350–$550 = $7,000–$11,000; its published example is $1,000–$2,000 higher at each end, which it does not itemise. The semi-frameless example, $5,600–$7,600, matches its rate exactly. The quotable version: on one Brisbane fencer's own figures, 20 metres of frameless glass costs $7,000–$11,000 before whatever lifts its example to $8,000–$13,000. National comparisons are on what frameless glass pool fencing costs and aluminium fencing prices; the WA equivalent is glass pool fencing prices in Perth.

Do I need approval to replace my pool fence in Brisbane?

Brisbane City Council says you do not need planning approval for a pool fence, and that every barrier must comply with the pool safety standard: Queensland Development Code MP 3.4, the Building Act 1975, the Building Regulation 2021 and AS 1926. Whether you need building approval depends on how much of the fence you touch. The QBCC sets the line:

What you are doingWhat Queensland requires
Repairing or adjusting up to 2.4m of fence or 2 posts; repairing or replacing a gate so it self-closes and self-latches; fixing a shield; raising the height; paving under a gapNo building approval; the work must still comply
Replacing the whole barrier of a house poolEngage a licensed pool safety inspector before you start. The inspector inspects and issues a Form 26 non-conformity notice listing what the new fence must meet; within 3 months you ask the same inspector to re-inspect
Replacing fences on a shared pool on a building other than a house or townhouseBuilding approval from a certifier; a Form 17 final inspection certificate can then replace the pool safety certificate
Taking sections out during the workA temporary fence must be installed for the duration

The 2.4-metre line: in Queensland, fixing up to 2.4 metres of pool fence is maintenance; replacing the fence is a job that starts with a pool safety inspector, before the old panels come down. If the new fence will run along the boundary, the neighbour notice is Form 39, the Queensland pool fencing notice, and temporary pool fencing covers the gap while the work is done.

What the inspections cost, and the 3-month clock

The QBCC says there is no set charge for a pool safety inspector to conduct a full inspection, and suggests getting a few quotes. Inspectors are typically self-employed or subcontracted, and the QBCC notes they do not represent the government. Brisbane City Council publishes its own price: its 2026–27 schedule lists $632.55 (GST included) for an application for a pool safety certificate inspection. That gives you one published number to compare inspectors' quotes against.

Worked on a 20-metre frameless replacement: $7,000–$11,000 of glass on the Brisbane fencer's rate, plus an inspection priced at Council's $632.55, is $7,632.55–$11,632.55 before gates and before any re-inspection charge, which inspectors set themselves.

The clock matters more than the fee. After a Form 26 you must have the pool re-inspected within 3 months by the same inspector; if you do not, the inspector must tell the council, which can fine you, and you cannot ask a different inspector for a certificate within those 3 months. You can appeal a Form 26 to the Development Tribunal within 20 days. If you are selling, the certificate is valid for 2 years for a non-shared pool; see the Queensland pool safety certificate and what happens if a pool fails its barrier inspection.

The quotable version: in Brisbane, a replacement pool fence is inspected before it is built and again within 3 months, and no law sets what the inspector charges.

Licences, owner-builders and the Brisbane City Council fees

Two QBCC thresholds apply to almost every replacement. Anyone you engage must hold a contractor's licence if the work and materials are worth $3,300 or more, which covers nearly any glass fence. If you do the work yourself and it will cost more than $11,000 including labour and materials, you need a QBCC owner-builder permit first. A pool safety inspector who also does minor repairs cannot do work over $3,300 without the right licence.

Brisbane City Council's other 2026–27 charges apply only in some cases: $78.80 to lodge a certifier's documents online ($137.55 in hard copy) where the work needed building approval; $576 to apply for an exemption from the pool fencing standard on disability or impracticality grounds; and, if Council itself certifies a new pool and fence, $2,325.75 for assessment and final inspection plus $666.80 for each additional inspection, such as a pool fence. Council also conducts pool safety inspections and can issue on-the-spot fines.

The quotable version: a Brisbane glass pool fence almost always crosses the QBCC's $3,300 licence line, so check the fencer's licence before you pay a deposit. How to check a licence shows the search, what a pool costs in Brisbane covers the whole build, and pool builders in Brisbane lists who works locally.
