How much does a pool cost in Wodonga?

What a pool costs in Wodonga in 2026: why the only published prices are national, what the City of Wodonga charges for the road reserve works permit, bond and pool registration, what North East Water charges to fill, and how the Victorian route differs from the NSW one across the river in Albury.

Updated 2026-10-16 8 sources cited

A pool in Wodonga costs about the national price: one cost guide prints $50,000–$85,000 for fibreglass and $55,000–$110,000 for concrete. The Wodonga costs are Victorian: a $120 road reserve works permit with a $900 refundable bond, $37.15 to register, and water at $3.0892 a kilolitre, 76% dearer than Albury's first-step rate.

The short answer

  • No Wodonga price list exists. A national lead-generation cost guide, read 16 October 2026, prints $50,000–$85,000 for fibreglass and $55,000–$110,000 for concrete; it has no Wodonga page.
  • Wodonga is Victoria, Albury is NSW. A Wodonga pool needs a Victorian building permit, council registration and a barrier certificate every 4 years; an Albury pool goes on the NSW register with a 3-year certificate.
  • The council's road reserve works permit applies to every swimming pool or spa: $120 for asset protection plus a $900 refundable bond, applied for at least seven days before work starts.
  • Registration is $37.15 for a pool built after 1 November 2020; older pools add a $55.10 information search fee.
  • North East Water's 2026-27 usage price is $3.0892 a kilolitre: $123.57 for a 40 kL fill, against $70.40 at AlburyCity's first-step $1.76.

How much will my pool cost in Wodonga?

Searches for “wodonga pool cost” land on national numbers. We found no Wodonga builder publishing an installed price we could verify on 16 October 2026, and the most-read lead-generation cost guide has no Wodonga page; its national page prints $45,000–$62,000 for a plunge or compact fibreglass pool, $50,000–$85,000 for fibreglass and $55,000–$110,000 for concrete.

What Wodonga does fix is the council and state share. On a $60,000 pool it is $357.52: the $76.80 state permit levy, the council's $120 road reserve works permit, the $37.15 registration and $123.57 of water. The $900 bond is held and refunded, and the building surveyor's fee is quoted. The nearest published Victorian council fee is the Rural City of Wangaratta's $1,150 for a new inground pool permit in 2026/27; with that as a stand-in, the total is $1,507.52.

The quotable version: a Wodonga pool costs the same to build as one in Albury, but the paperwork and the water are Victorian and cost more.

Wodonga or Albury: which state's pool rules apply to me?

The state your block is in, not the builder's address. Wodonga is in Victoria, so a pool there needs a Victorian building permit, registration with the City of Wodonga and a certificate of barrier compliance every four years, lodged within 30 days of issue; the steps are in the Victorian pool building permit guide. Across the Murray, the Albury pool cost page covers the NSW route: AlburyCity's flat $955 certificate fee, the NSW Swimming Pool Register and a three-year compliance certificate.

Two differences cost money. Victoria charges a building permit levy of 0.128% on work over $10,000, or $76.80 on a $60,000 pool; NSW charges no levy at that price. And Victoria makes the barrier certificate compulsory every four years, where NSW asks for one mainly when you sell or lease. The Victorian building permit levy and what a Victorian pool inspection costs have the detail. A builder working both sides of the border should be quoting to your state.

Wodonga's road reserve works permit and $900 bond

The City of Wodonga's infrastructure page says a road reserve works permit is required, in addition to any building or planning approval, for works that include a new dwelling, demolition and a swimming pool or spa. The council inspects the footpath, kerb and drainage before work, documents existing damage, and inspects again at the end; any new damage is reported to you to fix.

The asset protection permit fee is $120 with a $900 refundable protection bond. Applications must be made at least seven days before work starts and need a works plan, an erosion and sediment control plan and evidence of public liability insurance of at least $10 million, which is the builder's cover rather than yours. The page does not state the year of these fees; we read it on 16 October 2026.

The Wodonga seven-day rule: the road reserve permit goes in a week before the excavator arrives, or any damage found later is yours. Building over a stormwater easement is a separate application with a 20-business-day turnaround; see whether you can build a pool over an easement.

Registering a pool with the City of Wodonga

The City of Wodonga's pool page sets the registration fee at $37.15 for pools and spas built after 1 November 2020, with an extra $55.10 information search fee for older ones. Inspections can be done by any suitably qualified inspector, and the certificate of pool and spa barrier compliance must be lodged within 30 days of issue or you may need another inspection. Other Victorian councils publish $37.10 for the same state fee in 2026-27, so check the amount when you pay.

What it costs to fill a pool in Wodonga

Wodonga is supplied by North East Water. Its own site refused our requests, so we read the price in the Essential Services Commission's 2026–31 price determination for North East Water: a water usage charge of $3.0892 a kilolitre for 2026-27, one rate for all customers other than major customers. That is the maximum price the regulator allows. A 40 kL fill costs $123.57; AlburyCity's first-step rate of $1.76 makes the same fill $70.40, so the Wodonga fill costs $53.17 more. Filling costs in other cities compares tariffs.

Before you compare quotes, ask each builder to show the permit fee, the levy, the road reserve permit and bond, and the registration as separate lines, then compare free pool quotes on the same inclusions. Pool builders in West Wodonga lists local coverage.
