How much does a pool cost in Bendigo?

What a pool costs in Bendigo in 2026: why there is no published local price, what the City of Greater Bendigo charges to register a pool and lodge its barrier certificates, what Coliban Water charges to fill it, and why old gold-mine shafts are a Bendigo site question to raise before the excavation is quoted.

Updated 2026-10-10 7 sources cited

No Bendigo builder publishes an installed pool price we could verify, so budget from the Melbourne and Geelong ranges and quote locally. The fixed Bendigo costs are small: $37.10 to register a new pool with the City of Greater Bendigo, $23.90 per four-yearly barrier certificate, and about $116 of Coliban Water to fill 40,000 litres.

The short answer

  • No verified Bendigo price. We found no Bendigo builder publishing an installed fibreglass or concrete price, and the national cost guide we checked has no Bendigo page. The nearest published figures are Melbourne and Geelong vendor ranges.
  • City of Greater Bendigo fees, read 10 October 2026: $37.10 to register a pool built after 1 November 2020, $92.20 for an older one, $23.90 to lodge a compliance certificate and $449.50 to lodge a non-compliance certificate.
  • The council does not inspect. Bendigo says you must hire a private pool and spa inspector, renew the barrier certificate every four years, and lodge it within 30 days of issue.
  • Filling costs about $116. Coliban Water's 2026–27 treated-water price is $2.9028 a kilolitre, so 40 kL is $116.11 and 50 kL is $145.14.
  • Old mine shafts are the Bendigo site question. The state's Historical Mining Activity dataset, around 19,000 records, concentrates mainly on Ballarat and Bendigo. Raise it before the excavation is priced.

Pool prices in Bendigo: what is actually published

We looked for a Bendigo installed price on 10 October 2026 and did not find one we could verify. The fibreglass dealers that cover Bendigo publish their ranges and their dealer pages, but not a Bendigo price, and the national lead-generation cost guide we check for other cities has no Bendigo page at all. Victoria does not regulate pool prices.

The nearest published figures are in other cities: what Melbourne pool builders publish and the Geelong vendor ranges. Use them as a budget band, not as a Bendigo price. Distance from the shell factory, crane hire to a regional block and the ground under it are the things that move a Bendigo quote away from a Melbourne one.

The quotable version: there is no published Bendigo pool price, so the only Bendigo-specific numbers are the council's fees, Coliban Water's tariff and what is under your block. Pool builders in Bendigo lists who covers the city.

What the City of Greater Bendigo charges, and what it does not

The City of Greater Bendigo's pool page, read on 10 October 2026, lists four fees: $37.10 to register a pool or spa built after 1 November 2020, $92.20 for one built before that date, $23.90 to lodge a compliance certificate and $449.50 to lodge a non-compliance certificate. These are state-set amounts expressed in fee units; the Victorian fee unit is $17.27 for 2026–27 under the Treasurer's notice, and other councils publish the same fees a few cents apart.

What the council does not do is inspect. Its page says that to get a compliance certificate you must hire a private pool and spa inspector, and that certificates must be submitted within 30 days of issue through the council's portal. The inspector's fee is not set by the council; what a Victorian pool inspection costs covers the published range.

On a new pool, the council's own fees over the first eight years are $37.10 to register plus two certificate lodgements at $23.90, or $84.90 in total at today's rates. The building permit, the permit levy and the Home Warranty rules are state rules, set out on the Victorian pool building permit page.

Is there an old mine shaft under my block in Bendigo?

Possibly, and it is the one site question that is genuinely Bendigo's. The Victorian Government's Historical Mining Activity dataset on DataVic says mine shaft locations were collected by a variety of methods from 1869, mainly concentrating in Ballarat and Bendigo, and that the compiled data came to around 19,000 records. It warns that one shaft may be recorded several times from different sources.

Shafts do not stay hidden. In 2014 the City of Greater Bendigo's works manager told the local paper it was not uncommon for old mine shafts to open up in the colder, wetter months, and that the city was spending up to $50,000 a year reinstating shafts on land it manages. That was city land, not backyards, but the ground is the same.

The shaft-check rule: ask before the excavation is quoted, not after it starts. Check the mapped records for your address, tell each builder what you found, and ask how the quote treats an unrecorded shaft or old fill: as an excluded item, a provisional sum or a fixed price. We found no published Bendigo price for dealing with a shaft, so treat it as a quote question. How a provisional sum works in a pool quote explains the usual mechanism, and whether you need a soil test covers the ground report.

Filling and heating a pool in Bendigo

Bendigo is in Coliban Water's treated-water pricing district, and the 2026–27 schedule charges $2.9028 a kilolitre for treated water, one rate with no step. A 40,000-litre pool is 40 kL, so filling it costs $116.11; a 50 kL pool costs $145.14. See what it costs to fill a pool across Australia for the other utilities.

Bendigo summers are hot by Victorian standards. At the Bureau of Meteorology's Bendigo Airport station, the mean maximum is 30.4°C in January, 29.7°C in February, 26.3°C in March and 27.6°C in December: four months averaging 25°C or more. November averages 24.7°C and April 21.4°C, which is where heating decides whether you swim. Solar, gas or heat pump compares the options.

Getting Bendigo quotes you can compare

Because there is no local benchmark, the comparison has to come from the quotes themselves. Ask each builder for the same pool size, the same coping and paving area, and a written answer on four Bendigo questions: who checks for mine shafts and old fill, how rock is priced, whether crane access is included, and whether the $37.10 registration and the first barrier certificate are inside the price or left to you.

Compare free pool quotes when you have that list ready, and see what differs between pool quotes for the lines that usually move.
