How much does a pool cost in Bundaberg?
Bundaberg has no independently measured pool price, and the city figure most often quoted is shared word for word with other Queensland cities. What is specific to Bundaberg is Bundaberg Regional Council's 2026/27 fee schedule, its swimming pool factsheet on setbacks and overlays, and a free online flood search. This page puts the verified council costs next to the advertised prices so you can see which is which.
Published figures for a Bundaberg inground pool start at about $40,000 and reach roughly $65,000 with tiling, fencing and landscaping; a national guide puts fibreglass at $45,000–$85,000 installed. All vendor-published. Bundaberg Regional Council charges $210 to lodge your certifier's approval, or $955 if the pool's siting needs council assessment.
The short answer
- Bundaberg price: from $40,000, about $65,000 with extras. Published by a national quote-comparison site in the same words it uses for Cairns and Townsville. It is a regional figure, not a local measurement.
- National fibreglass range: $45,000–$85,000 installed; $25,000–$45,000 for a plunge or compact fibreglass pool (national cost guide, September 2026).
- Council lodgement: $210. Bundaberg Regional Council's 2026/27 schedule charges $210 when a private certifier lodges the approval. A concurrence agency referral adds $745.
- The 1.5m setback rule. Council's factsheet: water generally 1.5m from road, side and rear boundaries unless a solid wall or fence at least 1.8m high intervenes. Closer than that means a referral.
- Flood check: free online. Council's online flood search certificate costs nothing per lot; a hard copy is $214. Check it before you pay for a design.

What does a pool cost in Bundaberg?
Every Bundaberg pool price we could find is published by a business that sells pools or pool leads. We found no regulated rate and no independent Bundaberg survey, so read the ranges as the market advertising itself.
A documented finding, checked on 28 September 2026. One national quote-comparison site publishes city pages with a headline price for each Queensland city. For Cairns, Bundaberg and Townsville the wording is identical: an inground pool ‘typically starts at $40,000’ and is ‘closer to $65,000’ once tiling, fencing and basic landscaping are included. For Brisbane, Mackay and Toowoomba the same sentence reads $45,000 and $70,000. No method is disclosed. Two price tiers across six cities, in the same words, reads as a regional template rather than six local measurements.
The quotable version: the most-quoted Bundaberg pool price is shared word for word with Cairns and Townsville, so it tells you about Queensland's regional tier, not about Bundaberg.
The national figures are at least transparent about being national. A cost guide updated September 2026 publishes $45,000–$85,000 for an installed fibreglass inground pool, $25,000–$45,000 for a plunge or compact fibreglass pool and $65,000–$110,000 for concrete, plus $8,000–$35,000 for excavation and site access. What a pool costs in Australia sets out the drivers, and why a quote is higher than the advertised price explains the gap between a 'from' price and a contract price.
What Bundaberg Regional Council charges, fee by fee
Bundaberg Regional Council's page on swimming pool compliance says in-ground and above-ground pools, spas, and portable and inflatable pools all need building approval from a private building certifier before they are built or installed. Council's own charges come from its 2026/27 Fees and Charges schedule, effective 1 July 2026:
- $210 – lodgement of plans by a private certifier, including associated documents.
- $745 – concurrence agency referral for building matters, including amenity and aesthetics, the Queensland Development Code, building over sewers and assessment against planning scheme provisions.
- $214 – copy of a certificate of classification or final inspection certificate.
- $1,080 – council pool safety inspection, with the state's pool safety certificate cost added on top; $540 for a re-inspection after a nonconformity notice.
The schedule also lists council building fees of $1,780 for a swimming pool (one inspection included) and $685 for a temporary fence inspection. Council's pool guidance points you to a private certifier, so ask council directly whether it will take your pool on before comparing that fee with a certifier's quote.
A compliant Bundaberg pool costs $210 in council fees; one that needs a concurrence referral costs $955, and the difference is usually decided by where the pool sits on the block.
Your builder's quote should say which of these it includes. What differs between pool quotes lists the lines worth checking, and the Queensland home warranty scheme covers the insurance premium, which the QBCC says is compulsory for domestic building work over $3,300.
Where can a pool go on a Bundaberg block?
Siting is what turns a $210 council bill into a $955 one, so check it before the design is drawn. Bundaberg Regional Council's swimming pools factsheet says the Queensland Development Code generally requires:
- Road boundaries: a 1.5m setback from a road frontage, unless there is a solid wall or fence at least 1.8m high between the water and the road.
- Side and rear boundaries: 1.5m between the water and the boundary, unless there is a solid wall or fence at least 1.8m high.
If the pool does not comply with the code and the planning scheme, council has to assess the plans through a concurrence agency assessment. That is the $745 referral in the schedule. The factsheet also says the planning scheme can add siting rules for constrained sites, such as coastal setback lines. It tells you to keep the pool and its excavation clear of sewer, water and stormwater pipes and easements, and to check them on council's online mapping.
The Bundaberg decision rule: water 1.5m or more from every boundary, clear of pipes and easements, is the $210 pool; anything closer without a 1.8m solid wall or fence is the $955 pool, plus the time the referral takes.
Overlays are the other local variable. Council's factsheet names flooding among them, and its online flood search certificate is free per lot. The setback around a pool fence is a separate rule about the fence itself, and what pool excavation costs covers what happens when the ground is harder than expected.
How to compare Bundaberg pool builders' quotes
We do not rank builders. What makes their quotes comparable is getting every builder to price the same assumptions, in writing.
| Question to put to every builder | Why it matters in Bundaberg |
|---|---|
| Which certifier, and is the certifier's fee included? | Council does not set it; council's own charge is only the $210 lodgement |
| Does the siting need a concurrence referral? | $745 extra, and extra time, if the water is within 1.5m of a boundary without a 1.8m solid wall or fence |
| Have you checked the flood overlay and underground services? | Council's flood search is free online; pipes and easements move the pool |
| How is rock or unexpected ground priced? | The QBCC says contracts should cover unforeseen events such as finding rock during excavation |
| Is the fence in the price? | The certifier must inspect and certify the barrier; a separate fencing contract is common |
Two Bundaberg quotes are only comparable once both say who pays the certifier, whether a referral is needed and what happens if the excavation hits rock.
Pool builders in Bundaberg lists builders working locally, and you can get a quote from several of them to compare. The contract that follows is covered in Queensland Level 2 pool contracts.
