How much does a plunge pool cost in Perth?

What a plunge pool costs in Perth in 2026, from the prices Perth installers, a precast maker and a concrete builder publish, and where they disagree. Then the Western Australian costs that are set rather than quoted, worked at three contract values: the building permit fee, the building services levy, a council's barrier inspection fee and verge bond, the Construction Training Fund levy whose threshold rose to $100,000 on 1 July 2026, and why home indemnity insurance does not apply to a pool on its own contract.

Plunge pool Perth prices run about $40,000–$60,000 installed on one Perth plunge pool installer's figures, and a Perth precast maker lists its pools at $24,000–$45,000 before installation. WA's set costs on a $45,000 plunge pool are small: a $121 permit fee, a $61.65 levy and a council barrier inspection fee such as Melville's $312.

The short answer

  • Plunge pool Perth prices are vendor figures. One installer: fibreglass $40,000–$60,000 installed, most projects near $50,000. A precast maker: $24,000–$45,000 by model, plus installation. A concrete builder's 2023 guide: $37,500 for 4 × 2m.
  • The building permit fee is $121 on most plunge pools. Building and Energy sets a certified application at 0.19% of the value with a $121 minimum, which covers every contract up to about $63,684.
  • The building services levy is $61.65 up to $45,000, then 0.137%: $82.20 on a $60,000 pool.
  • The Construction Training Fund levy no longer applies below $100,000. The threshold rose from $20,000 on 1 July 2026; one council's pool page still shows the old figure.
  • Council costs vary: the City of Melville charges $312 for the first barrier inspection and holds a $1,900 refundable verge bond plus a $100 fee on projects over $20,000.

Plunge pool Perth prices: what is published

Every Perth plunge pool price we found was published by a business that sells pools or pool leads. Read on 6 October 2026:

  • A Perth plunge pool installer: fibreglass $40,000–$60,000 installed; precast concrete $30,000–$40,000 plus $10,000–$20,000 to install, so $40,000–$60,000; custom concrete from $50,000. It says most completed projects end up near $50,000, and fibreglass with a heat pump, spa jets and premium finishes commonly reaches $60,000–$70,000.
  • A Perth precast plunge pool maker: from $24,000 for a 2.5m pool in its basic finish to $45,000 for a fully tiled 7m pool, all plus installation. Its home page says a small plunge pool ‘typically ranges from $15,000 to $30,000’, which its own model prices mostly exceed.
  • A Perth concrete pool builder's 2023 price guide: $37,500 for a 4 × 2m plunge pool 1.4m deep and $42,500 for 5 × 2m.
  • A modular stainless steel plunge pool maker: from $14,390 and $19,140 for a 3.2m-wide model.
  • A national cost guide: $24,000–$43,000, the same range it publishes for the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

The quotable version: in Perth a ‘plunge pool’ price can mean a shell before installation or a finished pool, and the difference is $10,000–$20,000 on one installer's own figures. Ask every quote whether installation, crane, fence and paving are in. How to compare plunge pool quotes sets out the lines to match, and is a plunge pool worth it weighs the size against the cost.

The WA fees on a plunge pool, worked

The table at the top of this page works the State's and one council's charges at $35,000, $45,000 and $60,000. The State's figures come from Building and Energy's approvals page (last updated 4 August 2026):

  • Building permit. A certified application for a Class 10 structure such as a pool is 0.19% of the estimated value, but not less than $121. On $45,000 that is $85.50, so the minimum of $121 applies. An uncertified application is 0.32%, so $144 on $45,000.
  • Building services levy. $61.65 for work of $45,000 or less; 0.137% above that.
  • Council charges. The City of Melville charges $312 for the first inspection of a new pool barrier from 1 July 2025, and on projects over $20,000 holds a $1,900 verge bond plus a $100 non-refundable inspection fee. The City of Fremantle charges $300 for the barrier inspection on lodgement. Your council's figures will differ.

Two cautions. The private building surveyor who certifies the application charges their own fee, which no law sets. And the City of Melville's page publishes a minimum permit fee of $171.65 for pools under $20,000, which looks like the State's older $110 minimum plus the $61.65 levy; Building and Energy now gives $121.

The quotable version: on a Perth plunge pool, the State and the council together charge about $595 that you do not get back, and hold $1,900 that you do.

Two WA levies that no longer apply to a plunge pool

The Construction Training Fund levy. The Construction Training Fund says the levy is 0.2% of the value of construction work where the total is more than $100,000, and that the threshold before 1 July 2026 was $20,000. A plunge pool under $100,000 no longer pays it. Under the old threshold a $45,000 plunge pool would have paid $90. At least one Perth council's pool page (Melville) still says the levy applies above $20,000.

Home indemnity insurance. The WA government says residential building work over $20,000 must be covered by home indemnity insurance, but that it is not required for associated work performed alone under a separate contract, such as installing a swimming pool. That saves a premium and removes a protection: if a pool builder fails mid-job, there is no home indemnity policy behind your deposit.

The quotable version: in WA a plunge pool on its own contract carries no home indemnity insurance, so the deposit and progress payments are your only protection. The Queensland comparison, where a pool does carry statutory cover, is on plunge pool cost in Brisbane.

Limestone, crane access and the site costs in Perth

The Perth plunge pool installer publishes excavation at $1,500–$5,000 depending on soil and access, and a crane at $3,000–$10,000 where a truck cannot reach the site. Our Perth pool cost page records Perth vendors publishing basic pool excavation at $4,500–$12,000, before any limestone; the two do not agree, and a plunge pool's smaller hole explains only part of the gap.

Limestone is the Perth variable. Coastal suburbs sit on dune systems where limestone is met at varying depths and may need a rock-breaker, which the Perth page covers in detail rather than repeating here.

The quotable version: on a Perth plunge pool, ask whether the crane and any rock-breaking are in the price, because together they can cost more than the WA fees many times over. Pool excavation cost explains how rock is priced.

Barrier, inspections and water for a Perth plunge pool

A plunge pool needs the same barrier as a full-size pool. The City of Fremantle says a pool or spa, including a blow-up or portable pool, is covered when it can hold water more than 300mm deep, and WA local governments then inspect barriers at least every four years; the City of Rockingham charges $49.67 a year for that on the rates. The detail is on WA pool barrier rules.

Filling is cheap. A 4 × 2m plunge pool 1.4m deep holds 11.2 kilolitres. At Water Corporation's 2026–27 Perth residential prices of $2.108 a kilolitre in tier 1 (up to 150kL a year) to $5.256 in tier 3 (over 500kL), that is $23.61 to $58.87. Draining is the constraint: in WA pool water cannot go to the sewer, as set out in can I drain my pool to the sewer in WA.

The quotable version: a Perth plunge pool costs under $60 to fill and the same barrier as a 10 metre pool to make legal. When you have your block's access and the size that fits, compare quotes on the same specification, or browse pool builders in Perth.
