How much is a pool installation?
What the installation part of a pool costs in Australia, separated from the shell: vendor-published supply-only and installed prices for the same shells from a precast concrete plunge maker, a NSW fibreglass seller and a kit supplier, read 20 October 2026, with the maker’s nine install lines added up.
How much is a pool installation? On vendor-published figures, installing a pool costs about $20,000–$41,000 on top of the shell, and the installed price is 2.3 to 3 times the shell price. One NSW seller lists a 7.5 × 3.4 m fibreglass shell at $20,000 and installed at $55,000. A precast plunge maker’s own install lines add up to $23,750–$51,250+.
The short answer
- The install premium is $20,000–$41,000 on the published pairs: installed price minus shell price for the same shell, from three vendors read on 20 October 2026. All vendor-published.
- The installed price is 2.3–3 times the shell. One NSW fibreglass seller’s five models run from 2.6× to 3.0×; a precast concrete plunge maker’s ranges give 2.3–2.5×.
- The shell is a third to under half of the installed price: 33.3–38.5% on the NSW seller’s table, 40.5–44.0% on the plunge maker’s.
- The plunge maker’s own nine install lines add up to $23,750–$51,250+ before the shell: more than its headline installed price implies at both ends.
- Crane hire is the most variable line: $3,000–$14,000+ on the maker’s figures, depending on whether the lift is over a flat site or a two-storey house.
| Shell | Supply-only price | Installed price | Install premium (installed − shell) | Installed ÷ shell | Where the figures come from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Precast concrete plunge pool, maker’s own figures | $14,990–$29,950 | $37,000–$68,000+ | $22,010–$38,050 | 2.3–2.5× | Maker’s cost article, first dated Nov 2022, retitled for 2026 |
| Same maker, sum of its nine install lines | $14,990–$29,950 | $38,740–$81,200+ | $23,750–$51,250+ | 2.6–2.7× | Our addition of the maker’s line items; it exceeds the maker’s headline |

How much is a pool installation on its own?
The installation is everything between a shell on a truck and a pool you can fill: approvals, excavation, crane, footings and backfill, plumbing and equipment, electrical and earthing, the safety barrier and freight. Few vendors publish it as a separate figure, but three publish a shell price and an installed price for the same shell, and the difference is the install premium.
On those pairs the premium is $20,000 to $41,000. A NSW South Coast fibreglass seller’s table gives a 5.5 × 2.7 m shell at $15,000 and $45,000 installed, up to a 10 × 2.8 m lap pool at $24,000 and $65,000. A precast concrete plunge pool maker gives $14,990–$29,950 for the shell and $37,000–$68,000+ installed. A fibreglass kit supplier gives shells from $14,690 and installation of around $20,000 on a straightforward site.
The install multiple: on published Australian pairs, an installed pool costs 2.3 to 3 times its shell, so the shell is a third to under half of the bill. If a quote’s installed price is less than about twice the shell price, find out what it leaves out. If it is more than three times, ask which line is driving it.
What a pool installation quote covers, line by line
The precast concrete plunge maker is the only one of the three that breaks its installation into lines. It does not install pools itself, so it publishes what an owner’s builder or an owner-builder should expect to pay:
| What the install covers | Maker-published range | Note on the page |
|---|---|---|
| Approvals and certification | $3,000–$4,000 | including council certifications |
| Installation: excavation, footings, backfill, labour | $8,000–$15,000 | differs by installation type and site |
| Crane hire | $3,000–$14,000 | “+”; a flat site is much cheaper than a lift over a two-storey house |
| Fencing | $2,000–$4,000 | to meet the barrier rules |
| Pool equipment (pump, filter, chlorinator) | $3,150 | “starting from” |
| Plumbing and equipment install | $1,500 | “from” |
| Electrical and earthing | $2,000–$3,000 | |
| Freight | $1,100–$6,600 | by location and access |
| Install lines in total | $23,750–$51,250+ | Our sum; three lines are ‘from’ figures, so the top is open-ended |
Added to its $14,990–$29,950 shell, those lines make $38,740–$81,200+, above the maker’s own headline of $37,000–$68,000+ at both ends. The line items are the more useful figure. The headline is a starting point for a simple site, and the lines show where a hard site costs more: crane hire alone runs from $3,000 to over $14,000.
Excavation in detail, including rock and spoil disposal, is on pool excavation cost. Whether a pool can go in with no side access covers the crane question. The barrier, paving and landscaping that sit outside most installed prices are added up on what a pool costs all up.
Why vendors’ installation figures disagree
Every figure here is vendor-published, and each vendor’s numbers are inconsistent somewhere:
- The NSW seller’s page says installation “typically adds 40–60% to shell price”. Its own table has the installed price at 160–200% above the shell.
- The precast maker’s article is first dated November 2022 and retitled for 2026. Its line items add up to more than its headline range.
- A Gold Coast dealer for the same maker, in an August 2025 article, listed shells at $11,990–$19,990 and full installs at $40,000–$60,000+. Its shell prices are lower than the maker’s current range, and its installed range is narrower.
- The kit supplier says installation is typically around $20,000 for a straightforward site in one paragraph, and $10,000–$15,000 for a standard pool in the FAQ on the same page.
Two other makers publish only the supply side. A second fibreglass plunge maker lists shells at $9,082–$17,390 and says a shell price and an installed quote “are not competing prices for the same scope”. A second precast maker lists pools at $26,000–$47,000 “plus installation”, done by an installer you contract. The quotable version: the published installed prices are pairs of vendor estimates, not a market rate, so use the 2.3–3× multiple to test a quote, not to set one.
Supply-only or installed: which should I buy?
Buying the shell and arranging the installation yourself is only cheaper if you can manage the trades: the install work is still paid for, and what you save is the builder’s coordination. You become responsible for approvals, the excavation contract, the crane booking, a licensed plumber and electrician, and the barrier certificate. A shell supplier’s warranty may depend on how the shell was installed, so read it before you buy.
For a full fibreglass price ladder from shell to swimming, see fibreglass pool cost; for concrete stages, concrete pool cost; for the national price bands, how much a pool costs in Australia. This page does not repeat them.
Whichever route you take, get the installation priced line by line against the table above: approvals, excavation and spoil, crane, footings and backfill, plumbing, electrical, barrier, freight. Then compare free pool quotes on the same lines, and read why a quote is higher than the advertised price before you sign.
